Cyclone Nargis Appeal

Natural disaster always happens unexpectedly. The people of Myanmar recently bore the brunt of cyclone Nargis, a devastating wind of destruction that has claimed 22,500 lives so far, with another 100,000 feared dead as well. A further 41,000 has been reported missing while approximately one million people have been left homeless.
Since Saturday (May 4), the world has been bombarded with news from
Myanmar – full of sordid details of the aftermath of the disaster.
In response to the Myanmarese government’s plea for help from the
international community, and their willingness to open previously
closed borders, Muslim Aid International and partner Global Medic are
now making preparations to start relief work at the affected areas,
primarily to provide clean water, medicine and emergency health care.
An initial fund of US$200,000 has been allocated for this purpose. At
present, Muslim Aid’s team of personnel from Myanmar’s neighbouring
countries – Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka – are
congregating in Bangkok awaiting permission to mobilize equipment and
people into the affected areas.
However, as our experience in the past has proven that more needs to be
done after the emergency phase is over. Thus, more funds are necessary
for the long process of recovery and rebuilding – the premise of our 3R
- Relief, Recover, Rebuild initiative.
Our valued donors, you can now help ease the suffering of the people of Myanmar by donating funds to the Cyclone Nargis Appeal.
A little from you means a lot to them
