20 May 2008, jan 10.15 pagi, pejabat MAA menerima panggilan dari Kedutaan Myanmar, mengatakan seorang daripada kami menerima jemputan untuk ke Myanmar untuk berbincang bersama Menteri Luar Negara Myanmar. Menurut kedutaan Myanmar, hanya tiga orang individu sahaja dipilih dari setiap negara untuk menghadiri diskusi tersebut. Kami di MAA bersyukur kerana dipilih untuk menyertai delegasi ini.

Just as the world is waking up to the looming disaster in cyclone-hit
Myanmar, it is hit by another equally devastating news. This time, it’s
from China where a powerful 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck the
southwest region on Monday (May 12) at about 2.40pm local time. As of
today (May 15), more than 14,500 have been reported killed, tens of
thousands still buried and thousands more injured. Official government
figures estimate that in all, about 10 million people have been
directly affected by the quake.

Experts fear that the massive storm surge that swept into the vast Irrawaddy delta, southwest of Rangoon, has killed up to 100,000, with thousands more missing and millions left homeless.

Cyclone Nargis Appeal

Natural disaster always happens unexpectedly. The people of Myanmar recently bore the brunt of cyclone Nargis, a devastating wind of destruction that has claimed 22,500 lives so far, with another 100,000 feared dead as well. A further 41,000 has been reported missing while approximately one million people have been left homeless.
